Military Career Bio

Nekohl Johnson Military Bio Extended Version

A United States military veteran, Nekohl Johnson joined the army at 17 to obtain money for college. She joined with a MOS - 92B10 Medical Laboratory Specialist and served for eight years on tours of duty in Ft. Carson, Colorado, Fort Dix, NJ, Fort McCoy, WI, and Fort Bliss, TX - visiting Germany and London and serving in Riyadh & Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during the Persian Gulf War.

Ms. Johnson was discharged honorably from the United States Army Reserves as E-5 promotable immediately after Leader Readiness school at the 84th Training Command - Fort McCoy, Primary Leader Development (PLDC), and the Warrior Leader Course (WLC).After graduating and receiving a certificate for Laboratory Specialist from the Academy of Health and Science in Fort Sam Houston, TX, she continued her education stateside.

Nekohl received certifications in Clinical Laboratory Science and an Associate of Arts from the City Colleges of Chicago. Bachelor of Science in Business & Technical Management from DeVry University. A master's degree from Olivet University and other certificates, including Phlebotomy Instructor, Project Management.

Ms. Johnson completed more than 30 years of healthcare experience, including all positions in the Clinical Laboratory up to the Director level of management. She has owned, operated, and collaborated with business and nonprofit organizations, churches, and communities. She has survived divorce, domestic violence, and sexual, military, and work-induced emotional traumas.

During her career, Ms. Johnson has worked as a Veterans Specialist and taught Health Sciences courses at Suburban College, including Phlebotomy and Medical Terminology.In 2022, Ms. Johnson left healthcare management to follow her passion for advocacy in mental health and wholeness, mentoring trauma survivors and victims like herself and rendering many veteran services.  Ms. Johnson is completing a Clinical Health Worker Certification (December 2023). She is a member of military organizations; VFW Post 300, the National Women Veterans United, and the American Legion Post 800.  

Ms. Johnson is the President and Founder of Where We Meet, Inc., a nonprofit organization that uses Theatre for Recreational Therapy, offering services to churches, field houses, community centers, veterans, and other organizations. Where We Meet, Inc. uses DECRUIT programming - Treating Trauma through Shakespeare and Science.

Nekohl regularly attends workshops and has collaborated with organizations such as Allen Force/SheForce, the Jesse Brown VA, and the Southside Strong Coalition for Suicide Prevention, with this organization, Ms. Johnson conducts weekly coffee socials and virtual and in-person programs for veterans and their families.  Ms. Johnson is one of Interfaith America's Emerging Leaders, As the brand owner and operator of NCJ: I AM the MAP, LLC. - Be Whole with Nekohl. Ms. Johnson conducts journaling, writing, and trauma healing workshops through the Trauma Healing Institute.
